The Mahoning Valley Regional Council of Governments elected three new individuals to board positions at the board’s January meeting.
Mrs. Kathy Mock, the Community Impact Manager for United Way and who also serves on Austintown Local School Board, was elected as chair of the MVRCOG. Mr. Richard S. Scarsella, who is also the Vocational Special Education Coordinator with Choffin Career and Technical Center and Youngstown City School District, and serves on the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center (MCCTC) and Mahoning County Educational Service Center (MCESC) boards, was elected MVRCOG vice chair. Ryan Jones, who also serves as treasurer for MCESC, was elected Secretary/Treasurer. These individuals will serve the board for one year, with the ability to be re-elected in January 2022.
The Mahoning Valley Regional Council of Governments (MVRCOG) is a regional council of governments established under Chapter 17 of the Ohio Revised code. The organization manages staffing searches and the hiring process for districts including substitute positions, interim staffing, temporary, part-time, full-time and grant-funded positions.
“The board has been crucial to the operations of the MVRCOG for the 2020-2021 school year,” says Sandy Furano, Director of MVRCOG. “Our districts have had an increased need for substitute teachers and the board has been extremely supportive of the MVRCOG as we navigated through the unprecedented times of COVID.”
The MVRCOG provides personnel and services to more than twenty local districts and educational entities including: Austintown Local Schools, Beaver Local Schools, Boardman Local Schools, Canfield Local Schools, Campbell City Schools, Columbiana Local Schools, East Palestine City Schools, Jackson Milton Local Schools, MCCTC, MCESC, Poland Local Schools, Rootstown Local Schools, Sebring Local Schools, Springfield Local Schools, Struthers Local Schools, South Range Local Schools, United Local Schools, Warren City Schools, West Branch Local Schools, Western Reserve Local Schools, Windham Exempted Village, United Way of Mahoning Valley, Youngstown City Schools.
