ESCEO Supporting Local Districts with Implementing Dyslexia Legislation Requirements

ESCEO Dyslexia

The Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio offers local teachers and administrators support and resources in order to understand, prepare for, and implement the requirements of Ohio’s new legislation regarding dyslexia supports.

Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio (ESCEO, formerly Mahoning County ESC) teaching and learning instructional specialists monitor the information released by the Ohio Department of Education and provide timely and relevant updates to district teams through the groups Dyslexia Updates and professional development sessions.

The ESCEO team has been working closely with its serviced districts as the schools work on choosing and implementing curriculums around structured literacy. ESCEO instructional specialists tailor professional development for multidisciplinary teams based on each district’s needs and plans.

Through an award of nearly $40,000 from the Ohio Department of Education’s ESC Capacity building in Structured Literacy Grant, the ESCEO has three facilitators who will provide the 18 hours of professional development modules required for district staff by the Ohio Department of Education.

Educators looking for the latest updates in Ohio’s Dyslexia legislation and requirements are encouraged to attend the ESCEO’s next ‘Unpacking the Dyslexia Guidebook’ professional development session on November 30, 2022 from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.. This professional development opportunity is free of charge to the ESCEO’s 21 aligned and member districts, and open to non-member districts for a fee. Interested participants can find information about the session and register here.
