Community Organizations Invited to Participate in Family Night for English Learners

Voices of the Valley

April 16, 2021

Campbell City Schools and the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio are seeking community partners to collaborate in Voices of the Valley, an evening connecting English Language Learner students and their families with local resources.

The event will take place the evening of Thursday, May 13 at the Community Literacy Workforce and Culture Center in Campbell. Families of English Language Learner students from throughout the valley will be invited to attend. Participants will have the opportunity to join in person or virtually.

The Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio (ESCEO), formerly Mahoning County Educational Service Center, provides resources and support for districts with English Language Learners.

“We’ve seen an increase in English Learner students in our community,” says Jane Buckingham, Special Services Director for Campbell City Schools. “This event will help families - both from our district and from other area schools - network and connect with resources and other families in the community.”

Families will learn about schooling in the US and will be provided district-specific information and updates at the event. They will also have the opportunity to learn about community partners, businesses, and organizations that can help their families and students succeed.

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, the English Center, Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio, United Way, and Mahoning Valley College Access are among the list of partners who will be represented at the event. Campbell City Schools and ESCEO invite other organizations to take part in this event.

“The goal of the event is to get our families more involved,” says Buckingham. “We will be connecting them with resources, but we also know these families have a lot to offer the community and would love to show them how they can share their own experiences and knowledge within their districts and throughout the Valley.”

Organizations and businesses wishing to partner with Campbell City Schools and ESCEO for the event can contact Jane Buckingham (jbuckingham@campbell.k12.oh.us or 330.799.6810) or visit this page for more information.
