Kathy Mock was appointed to the Mahoning County Council of Governments in 2017 and she currently serves as the Council’s president.

Her education career includes over three decades of service to the Lordstown School District where she was an early childhood teacher.

After retiring from Lordstown, Kathy was approached by the leadership of Youngstown State University’s Beeghly College of Education. From 2008 to 2017, she took on a variety of positions at the university including classroom instructor, assistant administrator of student field experiences, and supervisor of student field experiences.

In 2012, Kathy was hired by the Youngstown Mahoning Valley United Way as director of education and initiatives. Her responsibilities include overseeing and coordinating several education initiatives including Success By 6, Success After 6, Dolly Parton Imagination Library in conjunction with the Ohio Governor’s office, Young Women’s Mentorship Program and VELLO (a virtual volunteer reading program). Kathy has been credited with bringing the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to Mahoning County in 2014. Today it currently supports approximately 6,500 children and their families. And over 7,000 Mahoning County children have graduated from the program.

In 2009, Kathy was elected to the Austintown Board of Education. She currently is serving her third consecutive term, and she spent five years as board president and two years as vice president. She also has served as the board’s student achievement liaison and legislative liaison.

Her community recognitions include Athena Award nominee (2018); Northeast Ohio School Board Member of the Year (2016); Tribune Chronicle A+ Teacher Award recipient (2006).

Kathy earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Mount Union College and a Master’s degree in education from Youngstown State University.

She and her husband, Tom, reside in Austintown.
